Sounding the Black Country

valentinosnew

This collaborative installation is produced with sonic artist Annie Mahtani and presents a range of images and voices from across the Black Country. Through a circle of 6 speakers local people speak of their sense of belonging to the area against a backdrop of shifting sounds sourced and processed by Annie. A cycle of over 100 images are projected on one side of the installation to form a strong visual backdrop to the work. Sounding the Black Country was commissioned as part of The Wonders, a series of temporary projects that revealed and celebrated diverse and unusual aspects of the culture and communities found in and around the Black Country. Below are images of the project installed in a shop in West Bromwich in 2005.
