Sounding the Black Country

valentinosnew

This collaborative installation is produced with sonic artist Annie Mahtani and presents a range of images and voices from across the Black Country. Through a circle of 6 speakers local people speak of their sense of belonging to the area against a backdrop of shifting sounds sourced and processed by Annie. A cycle of over 100 images are projected on one side of the installation to form a strong visual backdrop to the work.

It was installed in West Bromwich in a disused shop for 7 days.

Sounding the Black Country was commissioned as part of The Wonders, a series of temporary projects that revealed and celebrated diverse and unusual aspects of the culture and communities found in and around the Black Country.
