DNA Sculpture
This dynamic DNA sculpture will be suspended in the stairwell of the Science Department of Holly Lodge High School College of Science, located in Sandwell in the West Midlands.
The sculpture consists of 16 clear resin orbs connected across two high-grade stainless steel spirals. Each of the orbs represent one of the four base pairs that make up the DNA code – AGTC– and will be sequenced in a series of four. An array of coloured LED lights sits inside each of the orbs and are animated by a MAX MSP programme.
Sean Clark of Cuttlefish and artist Pete Hill assisted in the realisation of this project. Sean was instrumental in sourcing and testing the lights, while Pete’s engineering skills attached the two steel strands together.
