The Higher Intelligence Agency: Spectral


In June 2004 Bobby Bird of The Higher Intelligence Agency invited me to produce some moving images in response to a new new remix of Spectral that first appeared on the pioneering LP Colourform in 1993.

The film was first shown during a rare HIA live set at the 2004 Big Chill festival at Eastnor Castle Deer Park, alongside visuals from the Birmingham based Modulate collective.

 

The source footage for Spectral was collected during a walk through a coastal area of North Wales during the early summer of 2004.
For me Spectral is a dynamic track that plays with tension of opposites that, according to Taoist wisdom, is at the heart of all things in the universe.
In making this short film I tried to use images to echo the aliveness and beauty of the track, and join with its celebratory essence.
